Laatst kwam ik een nogal confronterende bijdrage van Marshall Brain tegen. In het stuk analyseert hij haarfijn waarom het verkeerd gaat aflopen met ons als mensheid op deze planeet. Onze hoogontwikkelde maatschappijen zullen volgens Brain niet bestand zijn tegen de gevolgen van de klimaatcrisis. Ik ga zijn analyse hier niet herhalen en verwijs graag naar zijn bijdrage.
Zijn bijdrage bevat ook een min of meer grappige passage die ik hier graag uitlicht. Het gaat om de volgens Brain twee enige manieren waardoor we nog een zachte landing kunnen maken. Helaas zijn het wel hypothetische manieren. In het ene geval gaat het om aliens, in het andere om superintelligente AI.
“…As soon as this super-intelligent AI appears, it would realize that humans by and large are as dumb as a bag of rocks. Especially large groups of humans. By replacing all the governments of the world with a single super-intelligent government, and by taking control of the planet’s industries, there is some hope that a super-intelligent AI could bring humanity in for an imperfect but soft landing for the benefit of all….“
